Last weekend we decided to get out of Sydney and head up to Palm Beach for the day. It was the most beautiful day last Saturday with brilliant sunshine and the bluest of skies out there. Steve and I love driving up to Palm Beach (it’s where they film Home & Away for the Brit’s reading this!) as it feels very tropical and it seems to have that air of feeling like we are on holiday. We decided the plan was to get the boat over to Ku-Ring-gai National Park and explore the beaches around but we actually missed the boat by half an hour (it leaves at 12pm just so you know!). So with our spirits still up, we decided to treat ourselves to a nice lunch which turned completely disastrous because everywhere we went was either rammed full of people or they didn’t take credit cards.

We decided in the end to head back to the city and stop off at one of our favourite spots – Balmoral, based in the ‘well to do’ area of Mosman. I really love Balmoral beach as it’s pretty quiet there and it always feels almost like a hidden gem. Last time we went there we saw this cute cafe and so this time round we decided to try it out.

When we walked into The Boathouse we were greeted to a very light and open entrance area. We queued up and ordered some food only to find that all the seats were taken. We had to wait in the hope that someone would leave just in time for our food to arrive. Luckily that happened and after five hours of driving up and around Palm Beach, we were sitting down to a late lunch. This is what we had:

Boathouse Salad $28
(Salmon, quinoa, avocado, celeriac, labne)

Grilled Fish $27

(Grains, mushroom + gremolata)

Bowl of Chips $9
(w/ aioli)

I had the salad and it was hands down one of the best I have ever had. Steve said the chips were the best he’d ever had, all in all it was very good. Shame the drinks menu was placed near the exit door, otherwise I would have ordered a smoothie but maybe that’s something they need to think about changing. It was a lovely chilled place, family friendly and I’m sure we will be back to try some of their other dishes soon!
