BLUE MOUNTAINS (and nearby)
There's something incredibly special about the Blue Mountains in Australia. Located just 1h30m away from Sydney, it makes for a brilliant weekend from Sydney or even just a Sydney day trip. From various hikes and lookouts to the awesome Japanese Bathhouse and a meditation retreat which is so beneficial, it will change your life!
SOUTH COAST & CANBERRA
Within a three hour drive of South Sydney, there's some amazing places you need to check out on the South Coast and in Canberra. From beautiful walks in The Royal National Park, the world's largest blow hole in Kiama, the largest Buddhist temple in the Southern Hemisphere at Nan Tien, the world's whitest sand beach in Jervis Bay, and the beautiful Kangaroo Valley. Let's not forget Canberra is a three hour drive from Sydney too! Expect world class art galleries, fantastic places to eat and awesome wine bars in Australia's capital city.

MEDITATION RETREAT NEAR KANGAROO VALLEY
One place we've been back to three times already is Sunnatarum Forest Monastery. Thai monks run weekend meditation retreats near Sydney on a donation basis.
You'll get to experience Thai Chi overlooking the valley to Jervis Bay, walking meditation around the grounds and a monastery which is full of wildlife, you'll feel like you're in a Disney movie.
If you need some time out and away from everyday life, we highly recommend spending the weekend at this meditation retreat in Bundanoon in Kangaroo Valley. It's amazing!
NORTHERN BEACHES
We're including the Northern Beaches in Sydney in this section because it's such a popular day trip from Sydney and even weekend getaway for many, especially the area of Palm Beach. We also love Scotland Island in Pittwater which is one of our favourite hidden gems in Sydney.
CENTRAL COAST, NEWCASTLE NSW & HUNTER VALLEY REGION
The Central Coast is also home to some of the best beaches near Sydney! Bouddi National Park has some of the best beaches we've seen to date, it makes for an excellent day trip from Sydney. If you haven't heard of the Riverboat Postman, make sure you check it out. I doubt you'll find a cheaper cruise in Sydney and it's brilliant!
After living in Newcastle for nearly a year, there's so much more to this underrated city. Explore the beautiful city beaches like Merewether Beach and the Anzac Walk. Make sure you make the effort to go to the Hunter Valley which is Australia's largest wine region. Then head over to Port Stephens which is home to the Southern Hemisphere's largest sand dunes.
