It might have the bells and whistles on it like the luxurious hotels but there’s a reason why when it doesn’t come with the same price tag.

It’s got a brilliant French/Japanese inspired restaurant called Le Petit Flot which serves up an excellent breakfast. The hotel also has a fantastic range of the latest free movies to watch in your room as well.

Fact!

Twice a year you can enter a ballot to go down into the tunnels where the tank stream is now a drain to stop the city from flooding. It’s quite a remarkable hidden gem in Sydney to discover.

Location

It’s a great mid-range Sydney hotel which is located right opposite Australia Square, a main hub for Sydney CBD and it’s just a stones throw from Martin Place train station too. It’s also just a five minute walk to Circular Quay.

It’s the second time in this post we’re featuring another Ovolo Hotel because we love their quirky and modern designs.

This time it’s all about Ovolo 1888, a Sydney boutique hotel which is also known as Sydney’s Instagram Hotel. Located in another ex wool-shed, we love how the Ovolo Hotel Group have worked very carefully with the original features to keep some of it’s heritage.

Sydney based artist, Jasper Knight has made his mark throughout the hotel with his paintings featuring throughout. We love the modern touches of iPads and Apple TV in every room as well as the awesome breakfast Ovolo never disappoint.

Location

Ovolo 1888 is located next door to the ICC Convention Centre which is perfect for anyone attending a Sydney conference. It’s also right on Darling Harbour and also next door to Pyrmont which has loads of awesome bars and restaurants to choose from – read our guide here.

Rydges World Square is a fantastic hotel with exception service and attention to detail. We recently stayed here and loved it! It’s got all the mod-cons you’re looking for in a Sydney getaway, with soft, comfy beds, flat screen tvs, a mini bar and more.

The Sydney Cidery downstairs is a great option for drinks before heading out into Sydney for a night of exploring. But what’s more baffling, is how quiet the room is considering you’re in the middle of the city. You’ll get a decent night’s sleep here.

Located in World Square, it’s just a stones throw from Town Hall Station. the World Square shopping centre has plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from, with China Town and Pitt Street Mall just a short walk away.

Fact!

Harbour Rocks Hotel’s Scarlett Restaurant is actually on the site of Sydney’s first ever hospital. The bar in the reception area serves up good coffee and and local wines.

As mentioned, Harbour Rocks Hotel is situated on Harrington Street which is right in the middle of the The Rocks. It’s a brilliant mid-range hotel because although it might not offer up the best harbour views, it’s cheaper than the other Harbour side hotels, but has a similar standard and quality as the rest.

Harbour Rocks Hotel is the perfect getaway for families and couples looking for a central Sydney hotel without breaking the bank.


5. Hotel Palisade

Hotel Palisade is located in a stunning building in The Rocks. We remember when it was renovated and transformed into one of the best hotels in Sydney a few back in 2015.

Nestled inbetween the large building is dedicated to eight boutique hotel rooms. What we love about this hotel is the design concept as well as the cracking bar & restaurant. Make sure you go up to the rooftop bar, the views are incredible overlooking Sydney Harbour in a unique perspective.

Fact!

Hotel Palisade used to be full of the maritime workers who spent their evenings drinking in this pub after a days working on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This building comes with a lot of history and we’re glad it’s been restored.

Location

Hotel Palisade is located on Bettington Street which is right next door to Barangaroo Reserve. Make sure you pop over the road to The Lord Nelson, Sydney’s oldest pub and one of our favourites!

Best for!

Hotel Palisade is the perfect Sydney hotel option for anyone who loves to eat and drink, enjoy amazing views of Sydney Harbour and be close to the action of the CBD.

Fraser Suites in Sydney is an awesome choice for anyone looking for an apartment with hotel facilities in Sydney.

Back when I worked for another company, I used to book in staff into this hotel all the time because it’s the type of home away from home so you can work in your room but also have the luxuries of an indoor heated pool and gym on site. It’s also a great option if you don’t want to eat out and prefer to do your own cooking because Sydney can become quite expensive if you eat our every meal.

Location

Fraser Suites is located on Kent Street in Sydney, just a two minute walk to Town Hall Station.

We think Fraser Suites is a great all rounder. It’s perfect for anyone looking for a hotel apartment in Sydney.

Sydney Harbour YHA is a brilliant budget Sydney CBD Hotel to choose from because it offers up the best location and rooftop in Sydney for the price – read our review here.

Although it’s a YHA Hostel, don’t be fooled into thinking it’s just for backpackers. We’ve personally stayed here and saw everyone from groups of men and women, to families and oldies staying here.

The rooms are basic but clean and you can choose ensuite if needed. If you’re lucky, you can get a direct view of Sydney Opera House from your window.

Breakfast is super cheap and basic like toast and cereal which is great if you’re on a tight budget, otherwise you can cook your own food in the shared kitchen.

The best thing about Sydney Harbour YHA is the rooftop. It’s so big, just you wait until you see the sunrise over Sydney Opera House, it’s truly magical!

Fact!

Sydney Harbour YHA is actually built on top of one of the most important architectural sites in Sydney – where the first settlers lived. The entire hostel has been built around the site so you’ll be able to see it in person.

Location

Sydney Harbour YHA is the only hostel in The Rocks area and it’s price to stay here really doesn’t get much better in Sydney.

Best for!

Everyone looking for a budget friendly accommodation option in Sydney. I probably wouldn’t suggest corporates staying here because it is a hostel but it’s not noisy and you’ll get a decent sleep.


2. The Ultimo
