Things To Do In Woombye

With so many things to do in Woomnbye, think of fab places to eat, drink and stay as well as adventure waiting to be discovered! Woombye packs a punch for exploring this small part of the Sunshine Coast.

1. Drink Gin At Cavu Distilling

We loved finding Cavu Distilling, the makers of Sunshine & Sons which is located behind the Pineapple Precinct. We felt like we had found a hidden gem as we drove around the corner to find this hip distillery waiting to be discovered. Opened in 2019 it’s home to the third-largest rum makers in Australia, behind Bundaberg and Beenleigh.

With expansive views and space to sit outside in the sunshine, you could easily spend the day here feeling like you’re away from it all. It’s a peaceful spot serving up cocktails and gin, vodka and rum tastings. And I must say, as a non-gin drinker, they totally converted me with the gin and coconut water cocktail!

2. Australia’s First Big Thing At The Big Pineapple

A trip to the Sunshine Coast wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the Big Pineapple. Did you know it was the first ‘Big Thing’ in Australia? When we learnt this from the guys at Cavu Distilling, we couldn’t believe it as we somehow always thought the Big Banana was the first. It somehow made it feel even more special to us!

3. Treeetop Challenge

We had planned to visit Treetop Challenge in Sunshine Coast but we didn’t realise we needed three hours to put aside instead of the one hour we had, so we had to take a rain check in the end. Luckily, we managed to walk down to where the action was happening and it looks awesome. The adventure goes up in stages so we just saw the beginning which is perfect for the little ones. It was really sweet watching the parents follow their kids while they embraced the heights!

We saw everyone from kids, bucks parties and birthday parties being celebrated here. We’re putting this on our list to do next time we’re in Sunshine Coast because it honestly looks like so much fun!

4. Wildlife HQ Zoo

Looking for more things to do at the Big Pineapple precinct? Make sure you check out Wildlife HQ Zoo in Sunshine Coast. In March 2014, over 200 animals were relocated to Wildlife HQ Zoo from the now-closed Alma Park Zoo. Here you can get up close to many tropical animals from around the world. There’s loads of animal feeding encounters to choose from including, meerkat feedings, cute cotton top tamarin and red panda feedings.

5. Stop By For A Drink At Diablo Oasis

After you’ve visited everything at the Pineapple Precinct, make sure you pop into the Diablo Oasis, which is a pop-up bar down the road from the Diablo brewery. Serving up ginger beer, vodka, rum and liqueurs in a tropical setting, squint and you could feel like you’re on holidays.

6. Have A Drink At Woombye Pub

Woombye Pub in Sunshine Coast is a bit of an institution and is one of the longest-running pubs in the area which opened in 1900! It’s now popular amongst locals and tourists with a large kitchen and bar area serving up classic Aussie pub food. Plus! It’s dog friendly too!

7. Eat At Grounded Cafe

Grounded Cafe in Woombye is a gorgeous little place you should put on your list for things to do in Woombye. Although it looks small from the front, it opens right out to a coutyard out the back. We loved the little shop and sun trap spot on the right-hand side of the cafe if you can get it! My healthy breakfast was excellent! There’s also live music on Fridays from 5pm which would be a fun night at this gorgeous spot.

8. Have Fun On The Thrill Slide

If you’re looking for things to do in Woombye for families, make sure you check out the Thrill Slide which is located near to Cavu Distilling and the Pineapple Precinct. Started in 1979, it’s a popular Sunshine Coast activity for all ages! When you purchase your ticket, you’ll have 50 minutes to spend on the 120m water slides.

9. Kimnat Little Market & Cafe

Kimnat Little Market & Cafe in Woombye is a beautiful little place for anyone looking for healthy cafes in Sunshine Coast, or vegan cafes in Sunshine Coast. Serving up organic coffee and a wide range of gifts and homewares from India, Nepal and Bali, it’s the perfect spot to come to for breakfast on a day trip from Brisbane.

Where To Stay In Woombye

We actually stayed in Woombye during our recent visit which we mention below!

Sunshine Valley Cottages

We loved staying at Sunshine Valley Cottages in Woombye. The four-star cottages are pet friendly which made our first trip away with our pooch completely seamless. They also offer a pet sitting service, so when we went swimming with whales, for example, the owners, Nina and David happily looked after her. Honestly, it was a godsend for us and we would stay in heartbeat again regardless of having a dog.

The cottages are clean and spacious and the grounds make you feel like you’re totally away from it all. We loved staying at Sunshine Valley Cottages!

Places To Visit Nearby

Looking for more things to do in Sunshine Coast? There’s loads of little villages and town to explore, so we’re going to share some of the places to visit near Woombye.

Nambour

Nambour is home to some fantastic vintage shops, restaurants and art studios. We loved the Clay & Sip night at The Pottery Studio, eating at the wonderful Mill House Kitchen and visiting Mr Beesley’s Vintage Shop. Make sure you check out the secret waterfall in Nambour by checking out our Things To Do In Nambour article.

Palmwoods

Ricks Garage in Palmwoods

One of the biggest Sunshine Coast attractions is Ricks Garage in Palmwoods. It’s a 1950s themed diner that brings in people from all walks of life. You’ll more than likely see a lot of 1950s cars outside as it used to be a garage that fixes timeless cars. We loved this place and would happily visit again. There’s a cool whiskey bar up the top of the diner too.

Otherwise, pop over to Homegrown Cafe which serves up excellent healthy food with a gorgeous courtyard out the back.

Yandina

We absolutely love Yandina in Sunshine Coast! Head over to Gun Cotton Coffee Roasters for breakfast, Collective Haus for some of the best vintage shopping in Sunshine Coast, Wappa Falls & Wappa Dama and pop over to the amazing Terella Brewing Co for lunch and craft beer and lunch!

A big thanks to Visit Sunshine Coast for hosting us on this trip to Woombye. As always, all words are our own and we would never recommend visiting somewhere we personally wouldn’t go to!
