Central Tilba is a tiny heritage village where the scale of the community matters as much as the historic streetscape. Only about 340 people live here, with a median age of 57, so local life is necessarily personal and small. Growth since 2016 is roughly 10% since 2016, but that still leaves the village far from anything resembling a service centre.
The coast is only about six minutes away, which gives residents easy access to beaches while keeping the home base distinctly rural and village-like. Local dairy and craft traditions are part of the town’s identity, and the National Trust streetscape gives the centre a character that is unusual for somewhere so small.
The practical side is more demanding: shopping is limited, the nearest major hospital is almost an hour away, secondary-school choice is modest and internet is fixed wireless rather than fixed line. Housing sits around an $877,000 median despite the limited services. Canberra is about 3 hours 20 minutes away and the airport roughly an hour.
Central Tilba suits people who value heritage, countryside and a very close-knit setting enough to accept that many errands, appointments and work opportunities will exist outside the village rather than inside it.
