I’ve decided to blog about one of the current trends which is a staple item every woman should have in their wardrobe and it’s a timeless classic – the denim dress. Denim is huge at the moment with flared jeans, buttoned down mini and midi denim skirts, denim on denim, dungarees and the denim dress all taking over the high street.

So I’ve been on the look out for a good classic denim dress for a long time and I’ve bought into three very different options to share with you and to show you how to style the timeless classic in very different ways.
1. First up, I found this classic dress in Topshop at the end of the summer in the Sydney store for $80.
I bought this thinking that because it was a really simple denim dress, there’s no worry of it ever going out of fashion and it will be wearable all year round. Below is how I’ve styled it during summer and then just last week on a cold day winter’s day.
There’s no denying that tan accessories go hand in hand with denim which is why I’ve teamed my also Topshop sandals with the summer outfit on the left and my Sportsgirl over the knee boots on the right for a seventies winter look. I love the mustard H&M tights which give a subtle pop of colour and I’ve layered the dress with a contrasting denim shirt for a double denim look which I took inspiration from this Topshop ad below…
There are so many ways to style this dress. I think I’ll be layering it over a striped roll neck jumper next a bit similar to how British blogger Emma Hill has styled this must have Miss Selfridge dress below.
2. The Pinafore / Dungaree Dress Zara $79.99
I saw this on the Zara website a while ago and seeing as Australia must be the last place to get the current stock, I finally found it a few weeks back (it’s still currently in stock in Bondi Junction store). This again I knew I could wear all year round and this is how I’ve worn it at the end of summer and more recently on a cold day last week…
It doesn’t get more of a classic pairing than wearing denim with a crisp white shirt which is what I did at the end of summer on the left. Teaming it with a vintage tan leather bag really gave it a modern but vintage edge and I love this outfit. I’ve then teamed it with those Sportsgirl boots again and with a chunky knit for a casual weekend winter outfit. There are again so many ways to wear this dress that next time I wear it I think I might smarten it up with a pair of heels and a nice blouse.
3. Seventies smock dress Zara $89.99
This smock dress is so beautiful, as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to have it. The tapestry print is so eye catching that it’s one of those dresses that gets all the compliments. It’s another versatile dress perfect for all year round and here I’ve teamed it with those over the knee boots (I’m wearing these ALL the time at the moment!!) and a River Island hat I nabbed in the Christmas sale last year. This is a perfect casual take on the seventies trend and I even saw the dress STILL in the Macquarie Centre, Sydney store today!
Another way to style this dress is again a great idea that British blogger Emma Hill has done with a similar smock dress from Zara as well. This time she’s layered hers over flares and teamed it with a leather jacket for a contemporary modern take on the denim on denim and seventies trend. Top marks for this look and definitely one I’ll be trying in the future.
